The British Dental Health
Foundation is delighted to say that
every penny donated to the Blue
Ribbon Badge Campaign is used to further increase awareness of mouth cancer.
Last year we sold more than 15,000 badges– an excellent number considering it was only
the campaign’s second year.
We hope it will please everyone who got involved
to know that this money is being well spent.
Awareness leads to early detection, which has
been found to increase survival chances from
just one in two to nine out of 10. That is why
Mouth Cancer Awareness Week is so important.
The money raised in the last 12 months from
the sale of blue ribbon badges has helped the
Foundation to launch the following initiatives
to coincide with Mouth Cancer Awareness
Week 2007.

First ever National Mouth Cancer
Awareness public survey
This year, in association with Medicash, the
British Dental Health Foundation will conduct the
first ever public facing National Mouth Cancer
Awareness Survey.
The survey will create a number of benefits.
By providing a baseline understanding of the
publics’ knowledge of mouth cancer, the
survey will allow the Foundation to shape future
campaigns to focus on the areas that cause
most confusion.
The survey will also enable the Foundation
to monitor the progress of the public’s
understanding of mouth cancer and, in turn, the
success of the campaign. This will be done by
comparing the growth in public knowledge from
one year to the next. |
Mouth Cancer Awareness Week’s first
ever standalone website
Every month more than 2,000 people visit the‘mouth cancer’ section of the British Dental
Health Foundation’s website.
This year, thanks largely to the donations received
from the Blue Ribbon Badge Campaign, we
are able to launch a brand new comprehensive
website completely dedicated to the condition.
As well as information on this year’s campaign
and free downloadable materials, the website
(created by Dental Design and sponsored by
Denplan and Dental Design) will also provide
a comprehensive guide to the risk factors,
symptoms and treatment options available– an invaluable public resource.
Expansion into pharmacies
This year the Foundation will be expanding into
pharmacies, with the pharmacy channel set to
screen a mouth cancer information video, hourly,
in more than 800 pharmacies.
